Well in short he helped prevent a civil war and created peace in a country that the world thought would tear itself apart.
He was locked up in prison for 27 years by the Apartheid government, just basically to get rid of him. When he was finally released, he became one of the most forgiving and peaceful individuals the world has ever seen.
He lead South Africa from a hateful place to a country that, well, needs a little guidance right now but, one where all races live together and can accept each other for who they are.
