Diary of a Young Girl is the title given to Anne Frank's diary that she kept while she and her family were hiding in a secret apartment during the Holocaust. The Holocaust is a term for the murder of millions of Jews by the Nazis during World War II. Because Anne and her family were Jewish, they were forced to go into hiding during the Holocaust to protect themselves.

They stayed with another Jewish family in a secret apartment above Otto Frank's business, accessed only behind a bookcase.The bookcase covering the hiding place of the FranksAnne Frank is thirteen years old when the diary begins, the age she was when she and her family went into hiding.

The diary ends when Anne is fifteen, just a few days before her family and their hiding place was discovered by the Nazis and her family is sent to concentration camps. Anne, Margot and Edith died in concentration camps, but Otto Frank survived and published Anne's diary.
