Periods are the Horizontal rows in a periodic table. Left to Right.
Groups are the vertical columns. Top to Bottom.

So, you have to tell the number of groups and periods, simple.

Q. Metallic character and how it differs as we move from left to right and top to bottom?

Well, In a modern Periodic Table,
The mass number, metallic character, valency and all changes as we move from one position to another (left to right and top to bottom).
So, They are actually asking that, If we move from left to right, how will that metallic character vary?
How the tendency to lose electrons will vary?

You have to understand the concept.
