Advantages Of Friction:

Friction plays a very important role in our daily life. A few of its necessities are as follows:

1. We cannot walk without friction. Frictional force between our feet and the ground helps us to walk. It is our common experience that we slip on ice or on a smooth wet floor. This is because frictional force gets reduced at such smooth surfaces and hence it is difficult to walk on them.

2. Screws are driven into wood due to frictional force between their surfaces. If there were no frictional force, screws would not join two bodies together.

3. Frictional force helps to cut wood with saws. Because of frictional force between their surfaces, wood can be cut with the help of a saw. A machine would not work if there was no frictional force between its parts. Its different  parts would only slip without doing any work.

4. Players use shoes with spikes. This increases frictional force between the ground and the shoes. Players then feel comfortable while playing or running.

5. The tyres of vehicles are made stripped. This increases frictional force between the tyres and the road. Due to this, they do not get slipped and the chance of accidents is reduced.

6. Use of brakes stops moving vehicles. There arises friction between the brake-shoe and the rim of wheels when brakes are applied. Without friction, brakes would not work.

Advantages of friction:-

It is because of friction that we can walk, drive, open doors, turn tap and write.Screw and nails do not slip of because of the friction between the wood and the metal surface of the screw .

Disadvantages of friction:-

Friction causes the moving parts in machinery and automobiles to heat up this results in wastage of energy and fuel. Fiction also causes wear and Tear of the moving parts .
