In a simple language Moon’s gravity measured on Earth is stronger, than the Sun’s, but that’s not completely true

The absolute strength of gravitational field from the Sun as measured on Earth, is much higher, that the absolute strength of Moon’s gravity. But, as the Moon is much closer, its field is much less uniform. There is a significant difference in the Moon’s gravity measured on Earth’s surface a the point closest to the Moon, comparing to the most distant point. And this difference is primarily responsible for tides.

Mathematical proof

gravitational acceleration from sun

=GMs/Ds where D's is distance of sun from centre of earth

≈6×10^-3 m/s²

and gravitational acceleration from moon =GMm/Dm≈3.3×10^-5

so clearly As>Am

but the difference in gravity is more between moon and earth

so tidal acceleration from the moon is greater from the sun....
