Problems faced by Indian cotton weavers in nineteenth century are as follows:

★ As cotton industries developed in England, Indian markets was gradually flooded with Manchester imports

★ Due to this the export markets collapsed and local markets shrank

★ Machine made Manchester goods were so cheap that Indian weavers could not easily compete with them

★ As the American Civil War broke out, cotton supplies from the US were cut off.

★ Indian weavers could not get sufficient cotton and were forced to buy raw cotton at exorbitant price
