equation = x^2+x-12
=By splitting the middle term ,
= x^2+4x-3x-12
=x(x+4)-3(x+4)
=(x-3)(x+4)
i.e., x = 3 ........ (from x-3=0)
and , x = -4 ....(from x+4=0)
therefore alpha = 3 , beta = -4
sum of roots = -b/a
3-4 = -(-1)/1
-1 = -1 ........ (1)
product of roots = c/a
3(-4) = -12/1
-12= -12.......... (2)
Hence verified :)
