Archimedes principle is also known as law of buoyancy .This principle was discovered by archimedes ,a celebrated
mathematician,physicist andphilosopher .Archimedes principle may be stated as follows:
"when an object is immersed wholly or partly in a fluid (liquid or gas ),it experience a buoyant force which is equal to weight of the fluid displaced by it."
OR
"when an object is immersed wholly or partly in the fluid ,it suffers an Apparent loss in its weight. This Apparent loss in the weight of an object is equal to weight of fluid displaced by it."

If a body will be immersed fully or partially it will feel an upthrrust force which is equal to the weight of the water displaced by imersed part of the body.
