Narendranath Dutta, also known as Swami Vivekananda, was one of the most learned and respected personalities not only in India but around the world. He carried the message of spiritualism and Hinduism far and wide along with the culture and heritage of India. He belonged to an upper middle class traditional Hindu family and had indulged in learning about scriptures and religious texts since childhood. He was an exceptionally bright child with a hunger for knowledge.

Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda

Vivekananda was a man of great self discipline and principles. He had strong opinions on nationalism and he strongly believed that a person can improve himself spiritually and knowledge wise for the betterment of his own life and country. His strong vision and determination for the upliftment of the country after the colonial rule led him to great deal of travelling across oceans with the sole motive of spreading the pure ideas of Indian culture, legacy and spirituality. His philosophy on Nationalism, success and spirituality were accepted by people of all generations and many other renowned people of that era.

Contribution to the Parliament of World Religions

The Parliament of World Religions came to existence in 1893 as a platform of interreligious dialogues. Leaders from various religions representing different countries gathered here at certain intervals. On the opening of the Parliament of World Religions, Swami Vivekananda was present there and represented Hinduism with a speech which was centred around his ideas of nationalism, religion and spirituality. He received a standing ovation from thousands of people sitting there. He recited verses from Indian scriptures and explained those verses.
