Answer: 20√3 m = 34.64 m

Draw a right triangle ABC. Here BC is the tower and AB is the shadow at the sun's elevation of 30°.

Mark a point D on AB such that AD = 40 m, by which the shadow become longer.

The respective figure is attached with the answer.

Here, ∠BAC = ∠ACB = 30°.  ∴ ΔACD is an isosceles triangle.

∴ CD = AD = 40 m

Consider ΔBCD.

∠B = 90°,  ∠D = 60°,  ∠C = 30°

∴ BD : BC : CD = 1 : √3 : 2

CD = 2x = 40 m

BD = x = 40/2 = 20 m

BC = x√3 = 20√3 m = 20 × 1.732 = 34.64 m
