Given:

  • Resistance of lamp = 100Ω
  • Resistance of toaster = 50Ω
  • Resistance of water filter = 500Ω
  • Are connected to 200V source
  • The lamp , toaster & filter are connected in parallel

To find:

  • Current of electric iron which is connected to the same source

Solution:

Let

  • Resistance of lamp be R₁
  • Resistance of toaster be R₂
  • Resistance of water filter be R₃

❶ Total resistance

Since , the resistance is connected in parallel

So,

1/R = 1/R+ 1/R+ 1/R

1/Rₚ = 1/100 + 1/50 + 1/500

1/Rₚ = 16/500

R = 500/16 = 31.25 Ω

Current of electric iron

Using

V = I × R

Simplifying

I = V/R

I = 200/31.25

I = 7.04 A
