Answer:

Rafale deal is a very crucial deal in the defence sector of our country. It directly deals with strengthening the "Indian Air Force". India has heavy aircrafts, which needs to be replaced. Rafael will fulfil the need of medium aircraft, and the aircraft will have multi-role features. Another important reason behind this Rafael deal is to combat the need of "9 squadrons" in the "Indian Air Force". At present "Indian Air Force" has "33 squadrons"; we need 42 more to have a complete deter foreign threats. This makes the deal very important. The deal was first initiated in the year 2001 and the bidding was started by defence acquisition council in 2007. Rafael was selected because it gave the "lowest bid", and the maintenance charge is low. The deal was of 126 Rafael; later it was reduced to 36 ready-made aircrafts. The deal was signed by the "Defence Minister, Manohar Parikar" and the "French counterpart Jean Yves Le Drian". It was done in the presence of the "CEO of Dassault".
