A boy runs 5 minutes at a uniform speed of 10 km/h .At what speed should he run for the next 10 minutes so the average speed comes to 12 km/h

Let us solve this in a different way.

Boy runs for first 5 min at 10 kmph  = 10 km/hr

Let boy run for next 10 min at V kmph

let boy run for next 10 min at V kmph

His average speed is  average of above three. 

Average speed =  (10+ 2 V) / 3   =  12 kmph

So    10 + 2 V = 3 * 12 = 36

2 V = 36 - 10 =26

V = 26/2 = 13 km/hr
