Cost of notebook = 2*cost of pen [given].
Cost of pen = y [given].
Cost of notebook = x [given].
Substituting the values in the statement:
x = 2y.
x-2y =0
This is the linear equation to be obtained.
If x = 2, y =1 [2=2y, y=2/2=1].
If x=10, y=5 [10=2y, y=10/2=5].
We can even say that:
x/2-y = 0.
Cost of pen = y [given].
Cost of notebook = x [given].
