Answer:

1) This problem can be thought of as a problem of binomial probability distribution where if our random variable say X is supposed to mean the successful ship arrival which means it takes the value 4 for our case.

By the formula clearly,

The total probability that 4 ships arrive safely = 5C1 * (9/10)^4 * (1/10)^1

3) Probability that all the three coins fall likely means that all the three coins should show all heads or all tails.

Now, total cases = 2^3 = 8

But there are only two cases which is where all the three coins simultaneously show heads and tails.

So, the probability that all the three coins fall exactly Alike= 2/8 = 1/4
