14 - 17x + 5x² = ( 2 - x ) ( 7 - 5x )      ... (*)

so (14 - 17x + 5x²) / (2-x) = 7 - 5x

There are many ways that you could work out (*).  What you do should probably depend on what you're doing in class.

E.g. You could use long division.

Alternatively, you could see that x=2 is a root of the quadratic since putting x=2 into it gives 14 - 34 + 20 = 0.  Since the product of the roots is 14/5 (from the coefficients), the other root must be 7/5.  This gives us the factor 7-5x in the line (*).
