It's because of the kinetic energy of the molecules.

Molecules with high kinetic energy tend to move freely to anywhere while molecules with low kinetic energy don't move anywhere.

Also, During cooking of food the heat produced helps in increasing the kinetic energy of the molecules responsible for smell.

So, In the case of cold food there's nothing to increase kinetic energy of the molecules.

Hence, We don't get any smell of cold food from several meters away while we do get in the case of hot sizzling food.
