The main difference between these two categories of forests is that ; In reserved forests the activities like grazing, haunting etc. are generally banned unless permission is granted for a particular reason. But in case of protected forests, mostly all these activities are allowed unless banned specifically.

A reserved forest is a one where the species are protected in their natural habitat... and no human interference is allowed..... any kind of human activity is strictly prohibited.

Whereas protected forest are the one in which human intervention is not prohibited.... but hunting and poaching of animals is against the law.
