<b>Heya mate. (^_-). Solution below.
====================================

♦ Let the original price be 'x'.

♦ Then, VAT added,

= 4% of x

= 4/100 × x

= 4x/100

♦ Price including VAT,

= original price + VAT

= x + 4x/100

= (100x + 4x)/100

= 104x/100

♦ But, according to the question, price including VAT = 36.40

→→→ 104x/100 = 36.40

=> x = 36.40 × 100/104

=> x = 3640/104

=> x = 35

•°• The price before VAT was added was 35 Rs.

here is your answer OK ☺☺⌚⌚⌚

prive \: of \: medicine = 34.40 \\ including \: 4\%vat
VAT = 4/100*Rs.36.40 =Rs 1.456

price of medicine before VAT
=Rs36.40 - Rs1.456
= 34.944

then answer will be 34.944 ok
