1. There was no British nation before 18th century. The primary identities of people who inhabited British isles were-
England- English
Welsh- Welish
Scotland- Scott
Ireland - Irish
2. The English nation steadily grew in power ,wealth and took control over other isles
3. In 1688, English parliament took control, found monarchy and a nation state with England at the center.
4. In 1707, Scotland was integrated and United Kingdom of the Great Britain was born under the act of union. The Scottish people were forbidden to speak their Gallic language or wear their national dress. Hence, the supressed the Scottish.
5. Ireland was a country which was divided between protestant and Catholics, the british helped the protestants to exert dominance over Catholics of Ireland. There were several protests by Catholics. The revolt led by wolfetone and his united Irishmen were supressed and Ireland was also integrated into UK.
6. The symbols of the New Britain- the British flag (union flag), the national anthem (God save our noble king) and the English language was promoted .
