Given, x : y = 1 : 8

Again, given oxygen = 12 gm

Now, amount of hydrogen is

12 = 8x

=> x = 12/8

=> x = 3/2

=> x = 1.5 gm

Again given quantity of hydrogen = 32 gm

So, the quantity of oxygen is

y = 8*32

=> y = 256 gms
