GIVEN THE SERIES IS IN ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION .

IN ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION LAST TERM = a + (n-1)d

WHERE a IS FIRST TERM , n IS NUMBER OF TERMS , d IS COMMON DIFFERENCE

IN THE GIVEN SERIES ,

FIRST TERM (a) = 18

COMMON DIFFERENCE(d) = a2 - a1 = (31/2) - (18) = -5/2

LAST TERM = -47

 =  > a + (n - 1)d =  - 47 \\  \\  =  > 18 + (n - 1)( -  \frac{5}{2})  =  - 47 \\  \\  =  > (n - 1)(  -  \frac{5}{2} ) =  - 65 \\  \\  =  > (n - 1) =  \frac{ - 65 \times 2}{ - 5}  \\  \\  =  > (n - 1) = 26 \\  \\  =  > n = 27

NUMBER OF TERMS = 27
