Amphoteric oxides are mettalic oxides that show both basic and acidic properties. ZnO, Al2O3 and PbO are some examples.

Amphoteric oxides react with both acids and bases to form salts. Why they react with acids they produce salt and show basic properties. While reacting with Alkalis, they form salt and water and shoe acidic properties.
