1. A consumer is one that buys good for consumption and not for the resale or commercial purpose or a consumer is an individual who pays some amount of money or the thing required to consume goods and services produced.

2. Here are some duties of consumer are as follows:-

*consumer should know about their customer rights.

*They should demand for recipt or bills after shopping.

*consumer should check it's information about the products.

*consumer have to right to know about products.

*consumer should not be buy any products in pressure of shopkeeper because consumers have full right to choose....

3. Consumers are exploited in a number of ways:

1) under weight and under measurement- Sometimes the goods produced in the market are not properly measured or weighed. So sellers give these goods to the consumers less than weight or measurement to get more profit. This lead to financial loss to the consumers

2)Duplicate articles- In the names of branded product fake or duplicate articles of low quality are sold in the market. Duplicate items will not last long in the market because these are not manufactured according to the government specifications.

3) False information - Sometimes sellers mislead the consumers by giving the wrong information about the product such as its price, quality, expiry date, side effects on health and date of manufacture etc.

4) Artificial scarcity - Sometimes sellers create the artificial scarcity by hoarding the goods so that they can sell it later at high prices.

5) whenever the complaint regarding the good or service is made then sellers try to shift all the responsibility on to the buyers.

4. The main causes of consumers' exploitation are :

1. Lack of knowledge

2. Consumers indifference towards the market

3. Tele-marketing

4. Limited information

5. Monopoly

6. Illiteracy and feeling of satisfaction

5. The Consumer Movement is an effort to promote consumer protection through an organized social movement which is in many places led by consumer organizations. It advocates for the rights of consumers, especially when those rights are infringed by the actions of corporations, governments, and other organizations which provide products and services to consumers.

6. It was thought that passage of the Consumer Protection Act in India in 1986 would encourage consumers to stand up for their rights and lead to an overwhelming number of disputes in consumer courts.

7. The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted in 1986 to protect the interests of consumers in India. It makes provision for the establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for the settlement of consumers' disputes and for matters connected therewith also.

10. Right to be heard: This right empowers consumers to address consumer forums if they are cheated or deprived of their rights. Consumers can simply approach consumer redressed forums or file a suit in the court of law and recover damages as well as special interest on their damages from the wrong doer or faulty party.

11. Right to Information: The right to information is defined as 'the right to be informed about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard and price of goods or services, as the case may be so as to protect the consumer against unfair trade practices' in the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.

12. Right to Choose: The definition of Right to Choose as per the Consumer Protection Act 1986 is 'the right to be assured, wherever possible, to have access to a variety of goods and services at competitive prices'.

13. Right to safety means that we as consumers have the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and delivery of services that are hazardous to life and property. Producers and manufacturers should adhere to safety norms while manufacturing goods.

14. Right to Seek redressal means right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices or unscrupulous exploitation of consumers. It also includes right to fair settlement of the genuine grievances of the consumer.
