The rules which determine the the direction of current as given are as follows:-

  • Magnetic field produced around a straight carrying current conductor........

Maxwell's Right hand thumb rule or Right hand screw rule

The Maxwell's right hand thumb rule states that "If we hold the current carrying conductor in our right hand such that our thumb points in the direction of flow of current, then the fingers encircle the wire in the direction of the magnetic field lines.

  • Force experienced by a current carrying conductor placed perpendicular to the magnetic field

This one is called the Fleming's Left Hand rule

Fleming hand thumb rule states that if we stretch the forefinger , the central finger and the thumb of your left hand in such a way such that they are mutually perpendicular to each other,then the forefinger indicates the direction of magnetic field, the central finger indicates the direction of the current  and the thumb indicates the direction of motion of conductor ( force on the conductor ) .

Fleming's right hand thumb rule
