Ultrasonic waves are sound waves of frequency greater than the human audible frequency. Ultrasound refers to the sound with frequency higher than 20 kHz. Ultrasound is commonly used for the ultrasound scanning purpose.

Ultrasound finds its uses in many fields, some of them are:

(1) Fluid Science - Measuring fluid flows.

(2)Material Science - To measure material thickness of various types

(3) Dental Science - Treating and cleansing of teeth

(4) Surgery - Removal of fatty tissues, liposuction

(5) Chemistry - Producing consumable alcohol, ethanol.

To measure the depth of sea we use ultra sound wave.
The wave is send by the transmitter into sea and recorded the time by timer.

this the time taken to going to depth of sea and coming back.
so this time will divided by 2.
Now we know the velocity of  sound in the water.

Hence the depth of sea= Distance travelled by the wave=Time x velocity of sound

By the above mentioned way we can find out the depth of sea.

Echo sounding is a type of sonar usedto determine the depth of water bytransmitting sound waves into water. The time interval between emission and return of a pulse is recorded, which is used to determine the depthof water along with the speed of sound in water at the time.
