Ultrasonic waves are the high frequency sound waves.

The uses of ultrasonic waves are ...

it is used for detecting flaws and cracks in a metal block.
It is used in sonar for measuring the depth of the sea.

To measure the depth of sea we use ultra sound wave.
The wave is send by the transmitter into sea and recorded the time by timer.

this the time taken to going to depth of sea and coming back.
so this time will divided by 2.
Now we know the velocity of  sound in the water.

Hence the depth of sea= Distance travelled by the wave=Time x velocity of sound

By the above mentioned way we can find out the depth of sea.

Explanation:

Ultrasonic waves are the waves that have a frequency greater than 20000 Hertz.

It is used in the SONAR.

Sonar is a denze that uses ultrasonic waves to measure the distance, direction and speed of underwater objects.

PRINCIPLE:

It uses the phenomenon of echos in determining the sea depth and locating the pressure of water-water object.

WORKING:

(i) Sonar consists of a transmitter and a detector and is installed in a boat or a ship.

(ii) The transmitter produce and transmitted strong ultrasonic waves.

(iii) These waves travel through the water and after striking the objects the beam is reflected from the sea beds and is received by an underwater detector which is also mounted on the ship.

(iv) The detector converts the ultrasonic waves into electrical signals which are approximately interpreted.

(v) The time interval between transmission andreceving of the ultrasonic signal is noted.

The sonar method is also called echo ranging. This technique is used to determine the depth of the sea and to locate underwater hills, valley, submarine, icebergs, etc.

Hope it will help you.
