Hey mate here's the answer to your question:- When one joule of work is done to move a charge of one coulomb from one point to another point, the potential difference between the two points in a give circuit will be one volt. i.e, potential difference=work done /quantity of charge =>potential difference= 1J/1Q =>potential difference= 1V(volt).
