Let, The rate of sugar = Rs.100/ kg 

Expenditure = 1 kg. 

Now, 

New Rate = Rs.120 per kg

Therefore, In Rs.100 sugar bought =100/120=5/6kg.

=(1−5/6):1−1/6 :1=1:6(1−5/6):1−1/6:1=1:6

The price of sugar is increased by 20%.

Reduction in consumption = (20/120) x 100% = 50/3%

Ratio = Reduction in consumption/Original Consumption

=> (50/3)/100

=> (50/300)

=> 1/6

=> 1:6
