Haplontic - when sporophytic generation is represented by only one celled zygote and gametophyte is dominant.

Example : volvox,spirogyra,chlamydomonas.

Diplontic - When the gametophytic phase is represented by single to few celled haploid gametophyte and sporophyte is dominant.

Example : gymnosperms, angiosperms,fucus.
