Blood pressure - The pressure at which the blood is pumped against the wall of a vessel is called blood pressure.
- Blood pressure is measured in mm of Hg (mercury) by an instrument named as sphygmomanometer.
- Systolic pressure
- Diastolic pressure
The pressure felt by arteries during the systole or contraction of heart muscles, is called thesystolic pressure.
- The normal systolic pressure is 120 mm Hg (mercury).
The pressure felt by arteries during the diastole or relaxation of heart muscles, is called the diastolic pressure.
- The normal diastolic pressure is 80 mm Hg (mercury).
The low blood pressure is called hypotension.
The high blood pressure is known as hypertension. It is caused by thickening of arterioles. It can increased the resistance of blood flow that can cause internal bleeding and rupture of artery.
