Oxidation reactions occur in food and non-food items...... Phenols and the enzyme phenolase are found in the cells of the apple, and when these are exposed to oxygen in the air, for example through slicing, the oxygen causes a reaction. The phenolase changes the phenols into melanin, which has a brown colour.

Hey!! ☺
Here is your answer
_______________________
✔ Oxidation is the loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule, atom or ion.
✔ Oxidation occurs when the oxidation state of a molecule, atom or ion is increased.
✔ The opposite process is called reduction, which occurs when there is a gain of electrons or the oxidation state of an atom, molecule, or ion decreases.
