Answer: There is nothing symmetrical about time. Its completely relative , as its only a description of the relation of velocity and distance of a certain event , for a certain observer. We tend to think of time as a "thing" , as something that is fixed, but time is just the ever-changing variable of the relation between speed and distance. Its an adjective, not a noun. Therefore the "time" of the same event can be "long" for one observer, and "short" for another observer. It just depends on the relative velocities of these two observers in relation to the event observed. In our universe, as objects speed up and approach the speed of light, for example, their "time" appears to slow down to an outside observer. Time is only the elastic variable between distance and speed.
