 \underline \mathbb{METAPHASE}

1.The complete disintegration of the nuclear envelope marks the second phase of Mitosis.

2. Hence, the chromosomes are spread to the cytoplasm of the cell.

3. This is the stage at which morphology of chromosomes is most easily studied.

4. At this stage metaphase chromosome is made up of two sister chromatid which are held together by the centromere.

5. The plane of the alignment of the chromosome at metaphase is referred to as the metaphase plate.

6. Key features of metaphase

  • spindle fibres attached to kinetochores of chromosomes
  • chromosomes are moved to spindle equator and get align along metaphase plate throuhgh spindle fibres to both poles.
