magnification is =v/u-------------(1)

1/f=(1/v)+(1/u)-----------(2)

then we have to find first u

then

M=v/u

3=40/u

u=40/3(substitute this value in equation 2)

then the answer is

10 cm buddy

if it helped you plz mark me brainliest

TPS: for lens, v/u = m
TPS: v = -3u, u = -20, v = 60
Anonymous: what is the meaning of u=-20 and the distance between object and image is 40 cm,how you will explain
20182019: sir why have you written v= -mu
Anonymous: BECAUSE IMAGE IS INVERTED (ULTI)
20182019: ohhhhh
TPS: This answer is wrong. The answerer does not understand how to use negative sign in magnification properly.
TPS: i suggest you do it on your own. use the formula v/u = m and m= -3 in this case
TPS: you will get u= -20 and v= 60. Then you can find the f
