If all animals had the rational thinking and self-awareness than humans do, our species (and the planet) would be in for a hard time. Imagine a world à la Planet of the Apes, where every animal species has the same intelligence humans do. Chances are, it would be a messy disaster.

Well, this is a kind of logical question the reason because it can have two views for same context. We need to determine that what would have been the change in the world if animals evolved at same rate as humans.
• First opinion ::
According to this, if animals had evolved at the same rate of humans (in terms of intelligence) , then animal species would have been the dominant species on earth today.
This is because we see that animals evolved slowly than humans in terms intelligence. But still they have very high intellectual power. I mean we can take example of Beluga Whales. They can use the power of their voice (ultrasonic waves) using which they can contact to others of them by being away for miles. Similarly if we take example of Elephants then we see that they have very high memory power. They can remember each other even after several decades of being away completely. Now when it comes to reflex actions which are a major response of our intelligence, animals have a faster rate of reflex actions as compared to humans. Our reflex action ability is quite slower than them .
Using all these scientific datas, we can conclude that animals would have been a dominant species by today.

According to this, if animals had evolved at the same rate of humans (in terms of intelligence), them human species would have been the dominant species on earth today.
The reason because humans have a special power of communication. Though animals too have the power of communication, but still they can communicate with similar animals like them and not with others types. But in case of humans, we can learn a world - wide common language tht is English by which we can communicate people of different types. Of course, communication is also a part of intelligence only. And even if we consider one more part of intelligence that is compatibility power of brain that is understanding a information which we get by seeing or hearing, then humans are advantaged in it that animals. Though we didn't check this power of animals in physical life, but using biological traits and chemical signals of brain, it has been proved that animals are much powerful than animals in this case.
