The children in the school treated Wanda differently, and not in a good way. This was because she was of Polish heritage and had a long, hard to pronounce surname. She lived in Boggins Heights, which was a poor locality. She always wore a pale blue frock, which looked dirty and neat at the same time. They teased her because of her ‘funny’ surname, her poverty, the place she lived in and her looks. They asked her how many dresses she had to make fun of her, and she relied saying a hundred, to get back at them.
When people saw Wanda, they noticed a pale, blue frock with a hesitant smile on her face. Her feet were usually caked in mud and she tried maintaining a low profile as much as possible. They saw an easy to tease, timid girl, who never spoke back to anyone. She sat at the back of the class, where the loud, obnoxious gang sat. However, she was the quoteset and rarely cracked a smile when someone made jokes.
