Hey, what is the difference between distance and displacement
Please help me out.

Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position.

  • Distance is the total actual pathlength covered by a body from the initial point to the final point while displacement is the shortest straight line path between the two points.
  • Distance is a scalar quantity while displacement is a vector quantity.
  • Distance of a moving object can never be zero while the displacement can be zero and negative too.
  • Between any two points infinite number of distances can be possible but there's only one displacement.
  • Displacement is a distance but not all distances are displacement.
