The period of Gupta empire is called the “golden Age” or “classical age” of India in many sense.

❇Trade and Economy: India’s trade with the Western countries flourished during the Satvahan-Shunga era i.e. 2nd Century BCE - 2nd Century CE but this trade was disturbed by foreign rulers like the Scythians (Saka) and Parthians (Pahlava). Chadnragupta II defeated these foreign powers and took control over their region and eventually the trade. Control over trade resulted in generation of taxes which led to to economic stability and prosperity. The gold coins of the Guptas is the direct indicator of how powerful their kingdom was from both Economic and Administrative point of view. Gupta rulers were the first Indian rulers to issue gold coins making the Gupta era *literally the “Golden age of India”

❇Art and Architecture: The foundation of Indian art was led during the Kushan period by the creation of Gandhara and Mathura school of art. These styles later developed and merged into a new style which we call today “Gupta art”. The earliest temples of India were built during the rule of the Guptas. This happened mainly because the crystallization of the concepts of new deities, their stories and their sects. Standards of beauty was determined in this period resulting in the intricately carved stone sculptures of deities and apsaras  etc.

❇Literature: Religious stories were compiled and scriptures like the Puranas were written during the Gupta rule resulting in the compartmentalization of newly emerged gods and their sects. Also, Sanskrit language was reintroduced to Indians by playwrights like Kalidasa and Vishakhdatta. We today call this 5th century Sanskrit language as “Classical Sanskrit” it was different than Vedic Sanskrit, was more fluent and easier to understand. Also

❇The Gupta era gave us some of the great Scientists like Aryabhata and Varahamihira.

because of the support given by the Gupta kings to art and architecture, astronomy, literature, philosophy etc India experienced more or less sort of renaissance. That is why we now call the Gupta age as “The Golden age of India”

Hope this Helps.☺☺✒✔✔
