• the length and width of a outer rectangle is :
• length : 20 + 2 x
• width : 14 + 2 x
• the area of a outer rectangular is :
• (14+2x)(20+2x) = 4x^2 +68x +280
• the area of a field :
• 14 × 20 = 280 meter sq.
• the area of a path is diffrence between two areas :
• (4x^2 +68x +280)-280= 4x^2 +68x
• 4x^2 + 68x = 72
• 4x^2+68x-72=0
• solving from x:
• the roots are : -1 and 18
• x^2 -x +18x -18=0
• x (x-1)+18(x-1)= 0
• (x-1)(x+18)=0
• x=1 or -18
• we take 1 since it is positive and length is positive
• length of a path is 1 meter
