Batrachospermum belongs to Rhodophyceae (red algae) but it is blue in colour.

It is an exception.

RED ALGAE :

These are red in colour due to the presence of pigment called r-phycoerythrin in excess amount.

However, other pigments like r-phycocyanin,chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-d are also found in red algae.

Some examples of red algae are : Polysiphonia, Porphyra, etc.
