Let ABC be a right angled triangle, where AC is hypotenuse, AB is opposite side, and BC is an adjacent angle.

tan \: A = \frac{side \: opposite \: A }{side \: adjacent \: A } \\ \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = \frac{BC}{AB}

Assuming BC > AB

For example
Let AB = 10 cm and BC = 15 cm
Hence tan \: A \: = \frac{BC}{ AB } = \frac{15}{10} = 1.5

Since, tan A = 1.5
Therefore, tan A can be greater that one
