What happens to Electron Affinity of elements when we move Left to right in period and top to bottom in a group of the modern periodic Table ??

The group Size increases as the new electrons are added in the next shell…So the efective nucluer charge decreases so the new electron added does not experience more attraction towards nucleus and and the Electron affinity or electron gain enthalpy decreases

While as u go along the period the electrona are added in the same shell..so size decreases and electron added in the outermost shell experiences more attraction so it can be added easily so electron affinity increases

So we can conclude that electron affinity is inversely proportional to the size of an atom.
