Heya mates please help me☺

Experiment :
i) To observe the action of Zn, Fe, Cu and Al metals on the following salt solutions:

a. ZnSO4 (aq)
b. FeSO4 (aq)
c. CuSO4 (aq)
d. Al2(SO4)3 (aq)

Practical : ↓

  • AIM :  To observe the actions of Zn, Fe, Cu and Al metals with above said salt solutions.

  • Theory : The higher the place in reactivity series, It will displace the metals with lower place in reactivity series. (Displacement Reactions Occur).

  • Materials Required : Zinc Metal Strip, Iron Metal Strip, Copper Metal Strip, Aluminium Metal Strip, ZnSO_{4} Solution, FeSO_{4} Solution, CuSO_{4} Solution, Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution, 4 100 mL beakers, Foreceps.

Procedure :

  • Add 20ml of solution of ZnSO_{4} Solution, FeSO_{4} Solution, CuSO_{4} Solution, Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.
  • Take a strip of clean Zinc metal and cut it into small pieces.
  • Add two pieces into each beaker containing FeSO_{4} Solution, CuSO_{4} Solution, Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.
  • Keep the beakers undisturbed.
  • Note the change in colour of solutions, appearance of metal surface or any other change.
  • Repeat the similar procedure by adding :
  1. Copper strips to ZnSO_{4} Solution, FeSO_{4} Solution,Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.
  2. Aluminium strips to ZnSO_{4} Solution, FeSO_{4} Solution, CuSO_{4} Solution.
  3. Iron strips to ZnSO_{4} Solution,CuSO_{4} Solution, Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.

  • Observations :

Metal Zinc :

  • Zinc. (Added to CuSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Blue color of CuSO_{4} disappears and red-brown copper particles settle down
  2. {Inference} Zn can displace Cu from CuSO_{4} solutionZn\:+\:CuSO_{4}\implies\:ZnSO_{4}\:+\:Cu

  • Zinc. (Added to Al_{2}(SO_{4})_3 Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colorless. (No Change.)
  2. {Inference}Zn cannot displace Al from Al_2(SO_{4})_{3} solution.

  • Zinc. (Added to FeSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Green colour of ferrous sulphate disappears. Iron metal is settles down.
  2. {Inference} Zn can displace Fe from FeSO4 solution. Zn\:+\:FeSO_{4}\implies\:ZnSO_{4}\:+\:Fe

Metal Copper :

  • Copper (Added to FeSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colorless.
  2. {Inference} Cu cannot displace Fe from FeSO_{4} solution.

  • Copper (Added to ZnSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colorless.
  2. {Inference} Cu cannot displace Zn from ZnSO_{4} solution.

  • Copper (Added to Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colorless.
  2. {Inference} Cu cannot displace Zn from Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} solution.

Metal Aluminium :

  • Aluminium (Added to FeSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Iron metal is settles down
  2. {Inference} Al can displace Fe from FeSO_{4} solution.  2Al + 3FeSO_{4}\implies 3Fe\:+\:Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}

  • Aluminium (Added to ZnSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Zinc metal is settles down
  2. {Inference} Al can displace Zn from ZnSO_{4} solution.  2Al + 3ZnSO_{4}\implies 3Zn\:+\:Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}

  • Aluminium (Added to CuSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Copper metal is settles down
  2. {Inference} Al can displace Cu from CuSO_{4} solution.  2Al + 3CuSO_{4}\implies 3Cu\:+\:Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}

Metal Iron :

  • Iron (Added to CuSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Copper metal is settles down
  2. {Inference} Fe can displace Cu from CuSO_{4} solution.  Fe + CuSO_{4}\implies Cu\:+\:FeSO_{4}

  • Iron (Added to ZnSO_{4} Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colourless.
  2. {Inference} Fe can not displace Zn from ZnSO_{4} solution.

  • Iron (Added to Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} Solution.)
  1. Solution remains colourless.
  2. {Inference} Fe can not displace Al from Al_{2}(SO_{4})_3 solution.
  • Conclusion :

  • Al > Zn > Fe > Cu.

  • Precautions :
  1. Do not touch any chemical.
  2. Always clean the metallic strips before use with a sand paper.

Thanks!
