  • When an object moves unidirectionally then the length covered by that body is said to be displacement of that object.

  • Displacement is a vector quantity whose length is the shortest distance from the initial to the final position.

  • It quantifies both the distance and direction of the net or total motion along a straight line from the initial position to the final position of the point trajectory.

EXAMPLE

  • If an object moves from A position to B, then the object's position changes.

  • This change in position of an object is known as Displacement.

FORMULA

  • Displacement = Speed ×Time

  • s = ut + 1/2 at^2

  \huge\sf{\green {\underline{displacement}}}

  • the change in the position of a moving body in a particular direction is called its displacement.
  • displacement is generally denoted by d.
  • distance travelled by a moving body cannot be zero, while displacement may be zero.

 \sf \pink {\underline{characteristics \: of \: displacement}}

  1. displacement is a vector quantity. So, displacement has magnitude as well as direction.
  2. the displacement of a body is for a certain interval of time.
  3. the displacement of a body may have a positive, zero or a negative value.
