- When an object moves unidirectionally then the length covered by that body is said to be displacement of that object.
- Displacement is a vector quantity whose length is the shortest distance from the initial to the final position.
- It quantifies both the distance and direction of the net or total motion along a straight line from the initial position to the final position of the point trajectory.
EXAMPLE
- If an object moves from A position to B, then the object's position changes.
- This change in position of an object is known as Displacement.
FORMULA
- Displacement = Speed ×Time
- s = ut + 1/2 at^2

- the change in the position of a moving body in a particular direction is called its displacement.
- displacement is generally denoted by d.
- distance travelled by a moving body cannot be zero, while displacement may be zero.
- displacement is a vector quantity. So, displacement has magnitude as well as direction.
- the displacement of a body is for a certain interval of time.
- the displacement of a body may have a positive, zero or a negative value.
