Heya mate

Redox is a type of chemical reaction in which the oxidation states of atoms are changed. Redox reactions are characterized by the transfer of electrons between chemical species, most often with one species undergoing oxidation while another species undergoes reduction.

Reaction in which reduction and oxidation take place simultaneously is known as redox reaction.

Oxidation :- Reaction in which oxygen is added or hydrogen is removed. It is a process in which element looses electrons.

Reduction :- Reaction in which hydrogen is added or oxygen is removed. It is a process in which element gain electrons.

Example :-

  • MnO2 + 4HCl -> MnCl2 + Cl2 + 2H2O

MnO2 is reduced to MnCl2

HCl is oxidised to Cl2
