Heya! What is the reason that hockey is the national game even when it is been very less played in India as compared to cricket? Why is cricket not being made the national sport?

As you know that hockey was played by Indians before British came... and it was the favorite game of Indians... Cricket was played by British... when they came to India they also forced best hockey players of India to play cricket.. but the players get over to protest.... they said they will play only hockey for India... it was the first own national game of India by then...
