My dear Raj,
As usual, you have described your experiences on a train journey very well. But if you thought that was something, just read about my experience in an overcrowded bus. It is because of this bus journey that I am now lying in bed with a sprained ankle. In fact this letter comes to you from the sick-bed. This is how it happened.
This morning I got up late. After a hurried wash and breakfast, I am down to the bus stop to get to school in time. There was quite a crowd, the bus arrived and I pushed my way towards the door of the bus along with the jostling crowd. I managed to get one foot on the footboard while with my free hand, I caught the side rod. In this ‘half-in-half-out’ dangling manner I reached the next stop somehow. Here the crowd was less sympathetic. They pushed me right out of the bus and as a result I badly twisted my ankle. I limped to a waiting autorickshaw and came back straight home. Our family doctor said I had sprained my ankle. So it’s going to be at least one week in bed for me! You can safely expect another letter from me in two days’ time- I’m so bored!
Your loving friend,
XYZ
