Answer:The motion of the body is called linear or translational motion. ... A single force can produce translational motion of a body if it is free to move, but a single force applied on a body fixed at a point does not cause rotational motion of the body.

Answer....

  • When a force is applied on a rigid body which can move freely, it starts moving in a straight line in the direction of the force.

  • The motion of the body is called linear or translational motion.

  • A moment of a force is a quantity which represents the rotational effect caused by force when applied to a body at any point other than its center of gravity.

  • Moment of force is the product of this force applied and perpendicular distance between the line of action of the forces.
