HELLO DEAR FRIEND

HYDROGEN WAS NOT ASSIGNED IN THE MENDELEEV PERIODIC TABLE BECAUSE

Electronic configuration of hydrogen is similar to that of alkali metals. Just like alkali metals, it reacts with halogens, oxygen and sulphur to form compounds of similar formulae. For e.g.: H2S and Na2S. On the other hand, hydrogen reacts with metals and non-metals just like halogens. Due to this anomalous behaviour of hydrogen, Mendeleev was unable to fix a position for it.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU DEAR FRIEND THANKS

Hydrogen could not be assigned a proper position in mendeleeves periodic table because hydrogen , like alkali metals , combined with halogens , oxygen and sulphur to form compounds , showing similar formulae.

For example ::-

Hydrogen Compounds of sodium

Sulphide H2S Na2S

Oxide H2O Na2O

Chloride. HCl. NaCl

So, there were confusion about where to place the hydrogen

HOPE IT HELPS YOU!!
